It is located in the middle of the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea in the most shielded natural port. It was mentioned for the first time as early as in 1066 in the Deed of Donation by King Petar Krešimir IV. Cultural sites include the Cathedral of St Jacob (Sveti Jakov) from the 14th century, the Prince’s Pallace and the Town Hall of Šibenik. Since 1960 the International Children Festival has been traditionally held as the biggest cultural event in Šibenik. Šibenik is also the town of famous people as Nikola Tavelić, Juraj Dalmatinac, Arsen Dedić, Dražen Petrović and others.
